ReView of THE SECRET by Rhonda Byrne

Genre: Spirituality
Format: Paperback
Length: 184 pages
Publisher: Atria Books
First Published: 2006

This book has a very specific premise, The Law of Attraction.  The Secret is The Law of Attraction.  "Everything that's coming into your life you are attracting into your life," that's the whole idea behind this book.  Behind this premise is that your thoughts become the things that manifest into your life.  "The law of attraction is obedient.  It manifests what you're thinking about.  If you're thinking how bad it is - you're going to get more of how bad it is." And that is how you become happier, by having control over which thoughts you consume yourself with.
"Fragments of a Great Secret have been found in the oral traditions, in literature, in religions and philosophies throughout the centuries. For the first time, all the pieces of The Secret come together in an incredible revelation that will be life-transforming for all who experience it.
In this book, you'll learn how to use The Secret in every aspect of your life -- money, health, relationships, happiness, and in every interaction you have in the world. You'll begin to understand the hidden, untapped power that's within you, and this revelation can bring joy to every aspect of your life.
The Secret contains wisdom from modern-day teachers -- men and women who have used it to achieve health, wealth, and happiness. By applying the knowledge of The Secret, they bring to light compelling stories of eradicating disease, acquiring massive wealth, overcoming obstacles, and achieving what many would regard as impossible."
Whether you believe in this theory or not, this is what the book is about.  Everything behind your existence exists in your thoughts and the creative process.  Behind your happiness exists three steps.  Ask. Believe. Receive.

You decide what you attract by the predominant thoughts in your mind.  This is saying, in another way, that this is what you're communicating to the universe whether conscious or unconscious - aka. you're asking.  Believing is having unwavering faith.  This is the most important step in the process, what you believe in you consume yourself with and therefore manifests.  On the other hand if you don't believe in something you're less likely to put your time and energy into something and therefore be less likely to occur.  What you believe in you consume yourself with so therefore attract to you.  Training yourself to have unwavering faith into your thoughts and wishes its extremely important in life.  Receiving is the final and most important step in the process.  You must be grateful for everything you receive.

This book is about attaining happiness through your understanding of your own thoughts.  "Once you begin and truly master your thoughts and feelings, that's when you see how you create your own reality.  That's the where you're freedom is, that's where your power is."  And in combination with this is maintaining a level of good energy and that is done by being grateful.  Gratitude shifts your energy and starts to shift your thinking, in turn, as well.

Whatever else people peel away from the book or exagerate is beside the main point.  Whether you think this book is just mumbo-jumbo, there is some power to it.  It's what I have described above.
